How To Be Healthy With Everyday Pollution
Ever since the Industrial Revolution and other changes in technology and consumer habits, the environment has been a itsy-bitsy less green and a little more health hazardous. Environmental issues are not just centralized in America. There is a raising concern about the nature around us all around the world. While one person cannot defeat things like pollution and radiation by themselves, a lot can be done to protect one's self and the environment they survive in.
The first step that needs to be taken in creating a healthy environment for one's self is to be aware of the environmental dangers one is facing. Some things that are hazarding the environment and people are like a flash population growth, air pollution, water pollution, land pollution, radiation, and noise pollution. While some of these factors are out of one's control, it is mild necessary to know about it and cause awareness among others.
Each year the population of the world grows by 90 million people. The rapid population growth is dangerous to the environment and all humans because it means that water will become more scarce and polluted, waste will grow, not enough resources for everyone, and governmental instability. There is not much to be done about controlling the population of the earth. Though it is encouraged that people wait longer to have children and to even wait a while in between having children, so that the population can be a little more balanced out.
Air population is also a major quandary that keeps growing all over the world. There are several contributors to air pollution. Some of the popular causes of air pollution are cars, fires, and heating of homes and buildings. Air pollution greatly affects one's health because whatever goes into the air goes into one's lungs and blood stream. Since most people do not know what fresh air smells or taste like, many are ignorant of what the air pollution is doing to them. However, those who are elderly or have asthma generally have a more difficult time with it. Air pollution also effects the environment, according to the United States Environmental Protection Agency, Air pollution can damage trees, crops, other plants, lakes, and animals. In addition to damaging the natural environment, air pollution also damages buildings, monuments, and statues. It not only reduces how far you can contemplate in national parks and cities, it even interferes with aviation. If one personally cuts down on smoking and driving, either by using other means of transportation or car pooling, it will mean that that much air pollution will not be in the air that day and in the future. Though, one person cutting down on how much air pollution they make will not drastically change the overall air pollution. It would take the action of millions of people to clean up the outside air. There is also a thing called indoor air pollution that will directly affect one and their family. Preventing indoor air pollution is easier than trying to eliminate outside air pollution. To cut down on indoor air pollution, one should cut down on dryer usage, replace or neat humidifiers, vents, and air conditioning or heater belts often, cut help on the usage of aerosol products and harmful cleansers, and discard old or unused paint, herbicides, pesticides, and other like harmful products.
Humans are made up of over seventy percent of water so it is a surprise that water pollution is also a high danger. Earth911 says, We have no choice but to pay more attention to how we are using water, and how we may be wasting it. We must bridge the gap between our understanding of how critical water is to our survival and what we can do to ensure that we have an adequate supply of well-organized water for years to come.Water is a necessity of life, but a survey over ten years ago shows that forty percent of freshwater in the United States is now even usable! This means that everyone's greatest necessity will soon possibly become extinct or scarce. There are three sources of water pollution pathons, biological imbalances, and toxic substances. Pathogens can come in the form of bacteria and viruses. A popular contributing source for pathogens in water is from human and animal feces! Biological imbalances simply mean the overabundance in water plants. This is called eutrophication and it can lead to a ample number of decaying plants or a large number of fish dying at once. Toxic substances in the water are also very dangerous. The toxins commonly found in water are chemicals and metals. This is bad news because not only do these toxins affect the water one drinks, but the food one eats (for example, fish). Oil spills, power plants, and sediments can also be blamed for polluting the water. The dangers that advance to individuals from water pollution are illnesses and even a decrease in nature activities. Everyone could preserve water better by using less of it in their own home. However, the United States does a very good job to provide fresh water for its citizens, even though one fifth of the population is drinking unclean water. Most Americans should consume extra precaution when traveling outside of the country. For not all countries have the advantage to have clean water sources or water filtering supplies. So when one does fade outside the states, it is best to only drink bottled water, do not use ice, avoid tap water even if it is just for brushing your teeth, and do not prefer fruit and vegetables washed in unclean water. To purify water outside the states, try boiling it or adding a water-purification tablet.
One does not regularly think about how much they throw away in just one day. However, unbiased one person's trash from food and other material necessities can fill a dumpster in less than a month. The two types of waste are solid demolish and chemical waste. Solid waste can be counted as many things such as wood, food, glass, paper, cardboard, clothing, yard trimmings, plastic, and so much more. Chemical demolish is primarily pesticides and herbicides. Solid waste is dangerous to the environment because it takes up a lot of land situation. Sometimes, solid slay is dumped into the ocean which can create more water pollution. Other times, solid extinguish is burned, so that land space can be saved. The problem with burning trash, or incineration, is that it produces more air pollution. Chemical waste is just as hazardous to people and the environment. The biggest way to preserve the land is to remember the three R's of waste management. These three steps have been a motto of American citizens for a long time, but it is still effective today. Reducing, reusing, and recycling will not only save one money when it comes to purchasing items, but it will also do a small part in helping to save the environment and one's health. Recycling items like plastics will make coat hangers, carpeting, automobile parts, flower pots, and toys, aluminum will make more and new cans, glass will make new food and beverage containers and even a glassphalt for driveways, and newspapers can be recycled into egg cartons, cereal boxes, dry wall, and bedding.
There has been an increase in nuclear science. Scientists are finding more and more ways to use nuclear energy in industrial and medical technology. However, the use of too much nuclear energy has been found to have harmful effects on both humans and earth with daily use. The biggest fear of nuclear energy is radiation. Honest about everyone is exposed to radiation either through nature (for example, the sun) or through other artificial means (for example, nuclear reactors or even x-ray machines). Too much exposure to radiation can cause radiation sickness, many different cancers, and sometimes even death. Reducing the population's exposure to radiation is in the hands of higher officials. Individuals can only really try to wear a sun block that fights against the sun's radiation and other free radicals in the air.
A pollution that can often times accumulate ignored is noise pollution. Most people are use to the noise that surrounds them every day. However, noise pollution can shortchange one's hearing and even one's mental/emotional wellbeing. The source of noise pollution is caused by loud music, machine noises, and automobile and plane noises. Some simple ways to decrease noise pollution so that is does not effect one on an individual level is to reduce volume of music in shrimp confined areas, such as a room, car, or even within an Ipod or other type of headset. Some other ways to decrease sound pollution is to wear ear plugs or sound absorbing ear muffs when working with or around loud machinery or firearms and to live in a place that has sound-absorbing material (for example, drapes and carpeting) as well as a place that is out of ears' distance of freeways, airports, or train tracks.
Even though the world population is increasing just as fast as air, water, and land pollution, it does not mean that protecting the earth or one's own health is a lost cause. The first step to preventing more pollution is knowledge. The more one knows about pollution and preventing pollution, then more one can do. The other step to preventing pollution is to make healthier changes every day. Earth911 says, "Try to do one thing each day to save water
